Sybil Taunton is the Head of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) where she is responsible for developing and executing a robust DEI strategy for roughly 134,000 surveying professionals globally.
RICS is a global professional body founded in London in 1868 that sets, and enforces, high standards for valuation, construction, land, and real estate, and it regulates professionals to ensure integrity in the built environment.
RICS and BuildIT have had a strong collaboration dating back to our founding in 2020. RICS, and its executive team which includes Past President Ann Grey, have been ardent advocates for BuildIT’s mission and vision and has helped showcase our programs and services around the world in 19 different languages.
Sybil is also a U.S. Air Force Veteran, having served 12 years as a Public Affairs Officer, specializing in strategic communications and community engagement. Having served the first four years of her USAF career under the discriminatory “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that prevented LGBTQ+ individuals from serving openly, Sybil has committed her career to driving positive, meaningful change toward a more equitable and inclusive society.
