Nearly 1,200 LGBT/Allied business owners, professionals, tradespeople, public agency/owners, stakeholders from around the world gathered at the InterContinental Hotel in downtown Los Angeles for our Founders Day Conference and Gala Dinner and Awards Program on May 29, 2025 for what was truly a GLOBAL event!
We honored five outstanding individuals for their extraordinary business acumen, success and ability to ‘move the dial’ in a significant way as it relates to workforce development and inclusion (details below).
This Founders Day was one of the biggest, most high-energy evenings within the Design & Construction Industry!

RAMON HOPKINS
GALA RECEPTION CHAIR
Chief, Division of Construction, for the California Department of Transportation
Caltrans
BuildIT’s Founders Day 2025 Gala Reception was dedicated to the First Responders and Recovery Teams from the devastating 2025 Los Angeles Wildfires. From across the City and County of Los Angeles, California, the United States, Canada and Mexico, First Responders worked tirelessly to extinguish the catastrophic flames. Once the flames were out, the recovery process began with the assistance of many public agencies on the local, regional, state, and national levels. The healing has barely begun and the road back will be long. At the Gala Reception and during our Gala Dinner & Awards Program, BuildIT honored the public and private sector businesses who have, and are, making an impact.
One of the public agencies that has worked tirelessly within the fabric of the response/recovery teams has been Caltrans. Our Chair of the Gala Reception was Ramon Hopkins, who is Chief, Division of Construction for Caltrans.
In 1992, Ramon (Ray) Hopkins graduated from the University of Arizona and began his engineering career in the United States Marine Corps as a Combat Engineer Officer. He joined Caltrans in 1998 as a Design Engineer. Soon after, he transferred to Construction and began working as a Resident Engineer and later as a Construction Engineer. In December 2020, Ray was selected as the Chief, Division of Construction, for the California Department of Transportation. In this role he is responsible for providing statewide policies, procedures, and guidance for highway construction throughout California. He leads the HQ Construction team in support of roughly $14.1-Billion dollars of ongoing construction projects on the State Highway System.

GALA ENTERTAINMENT

It wouldn’t be a BuildIT Founders Day without a band!
Together since 2020, BLOW Brass Band is comprised of members that met through playing at USC, Long Beach State, and (yes!!) Disneyland. Combining the modern with the retro and jazz with pop, BLOW transforms well-loved classics into something new and exciting.

FD25 AFTER PARTY

We took over the entire 73rd Floor Rooftop Bar - Spire 73 and hired extra bartenders to set a ‘new bar’ for the best After Party in the AEC Industry, with world-renowned DJ – Ericalandia!
Ericalandia ping-pongs around the globe. A party starter, called in to open for Bruno Mars, Beyonce, dj-ing alongside Dnice – Post Quarantine Club and Aloe BLACC, ringing in the New Year just after the ball drops in DTLA for 50K people in Grand Park. You’ll often find her jetting between NYC, SF, LA, Hawaii, London, and Japan.
A master of setting vibes and curating good energy, equally hitting the target of warm, feel-good mood cocktailing rooftop poolside or high intensity training workouts and dancefloor settings. Erica has been known for her tropical R&B party and love of Afrobeats as well as her bag of infamously unshazamable remixes she seamlessly weaves genres together, no matter the venue from the Guggenheim to Coachella!
